What is The Great Race?
The Great Race is the title of this blog and also the title of a longer piece of mine that you can read for free at https://thegreatrace.us or on Kindle. The longer piece is an essay on the future of American prosperity globally, especially relative to China. It starts by defining “The Great Race” in that context:
Imagine a never-ending ship race around the world—The Great Race—a metaphor for the global economy. All countries compete, with each limited to one ship and only allowed to use the technology available within their borders to build and operate it.
However, that’s just a narrow application of the broader concept: At its broadest, The Great Race is about the never-ending endeavor to improve the human condition, and that’s how I think about it in the context of this blog.
The name was inspired by this ten-second scene from Heist (2001).
I remember nothing else from this movie.
